Difficulty Levels?

I recently started playing Horizon: Zero Dawn because it was interesting to watch my husband play it. However, I noticed his struggle with boss fights and that a single hit from enemies often took out a large chunk of his HP.

I was reluctant to try it at first because it looked hard. But then I found out I could choose from a selection of difficulty levels. I picked the easiest and started having fun.

That made me notice that when it comes to combat-heavy games, I'm always grateful for the option to pick the easiest game mode.

What difficulty level do you usually play games on? Do you like that it's an option?

I'll usually start on easy if it's a game/series I'm not familiar with. Games where I'm used to the controls I'll play on normal (and adjust down if needed for specific things!)

I never play on harder settings, haha.

Always easy to start with! I have terrible hand-eye coordination so it's incredibly rare for me to find that too easy, but if it somehow is, I try a harder level. If it wasn't an option I couldn't play the games at all.

I'll usually start on normal unless it's clear beforehand that the game is going to be really difficult, and if I run into trouble, I'll switch to easier modes if I can. If normal feels too easy or if I'm in the mood for a challenge/want to complete a particular difficulty level for an achievement or something, I'll amp things up.

It absolutely depends on genre. For most Japanese-style RPGs (Final Fantasy, SMT, etc.) I will play on normal mode. For anything action, I want easy at the most. For something with a shootybang element, I want the easiest it will give me and ideally a story-only mode. I generally don't turn it up beyond that (SMT in particular it's a pride thing to play on Normal but I don't hate myself and my free time enough to try Hard).
