Hi all! Hopefully this is okay to post here! (I didn't see a rule against community promos, but let me know if I missed something!)

Anyway, this is about a new video game community!

Is anyone here familiar with virtual trading card games? You collect and trade cards just like a physical TCG, but everything is online! [community profile] colors_tcg is an example of one!

I've been wanting a video game TCG on Dreamwidth...so I've been working on one for the last few months! I'm looking for anyone who might like to help mod the game! Or maybe even be a co-admin??

I've done a lot of the foundation work for the game, and it's time now to get others involved! The community is at [community profile] ggtcg and we've got a nice website up and running. Feel free to poke around!

There are various mod tasks available!
  • running services like masteries, currency shop, level ups, etc.
  • running the weekly and biweekly games
  • modding the discord (if we decide we want one)
  • deckmaking! (if you enjoy making icons or graphics, you might like making decks!)

If you think you might be interested, feel free to join the mod community at [community profile] ggtcg_mods where we can start hashing some things out!

(And finally if anyone is interested in playing once the game opens, but doesn't want to mod, membership at [community profile] ggtcg is open! The game isn't running yet, but the prejoin event will begin once we've got a few mods on board.)

ExpandI'll put some info on the game under the cut! )

Hello! I'm new to this community and I just discovered it! I'm obsessed with Nintendo Switch as a gaming platform. It's the first one I've bought for myself since the PS2.

I've just sent in the left joycon from two different Switches (mine and kid's) to Nintendo for repair. The kid claims that the ProController for the Switch never experiences drift.

But from what I've read various places, *any* analog stick will eventually drift, and the solution is third party controllers that use magnets. (I forget where I first saw the post, The Verge maybe? Or Ifixit?)

Does anyone have experience with third party controllers with the Switch?

The Jingle Jam is a charity event that runs every year on The Yogscast channel! This year the game collection is £35 and includes games such as PlateUp, Dark Nights with Poe and Munro, Plague Inc, Viscera Cleanup and Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion!

It's running from the 1st of December until the 14th and is supporting charities such as Huntington's Disease Association, Dogs for Autism, Mermaids, Special Effect, and Campaign Against Living Miserably. As of posting, they're around half way to the total they raised last year.

This might be of interest to some people here! [personal profile] elf is starting up a game club over at [community profile] indie_games to play those games acquired from various bundles. You can read more about the concept here, there's also a poll about the format that would work best for people and a first game up for selection! Hope to see some of you there :)

(Crossposted to my journal and [community profile] gaming)

Content notes for (virtual) animal death, which is basically my whole issue with the game as I thought I was buying an exploration game. And the exploration parts and puzzles are wonderful!! ExpandMore mild gameplay spoilers, no story spoilers )

Still a delightful concept! May an easy/story mode be added someday, haha. I'd love to see more cat games with that kind of exploration and puzzles. Walking on keyboards, pushing objects off ledges, tripping up walking characters, etc: this was like living the cat high life and quite a rush to experience :D Has anyone else here played it?

Just realized I haven't seen anyone post about this here: currently and for the upcoming week there is a charity bundle on itch.io, the Bundle for Ukraine:

The people of Ukraine are under attack. As game developers we want to create new worlds, not to destroy the one we have. That's why we've banded together to present this charity bundle to help Ukrainians survive this ordeal and thrive after the war ends. This cause has resonated with creators around the globe, to the extent that our bundle contains almost 1,000 games, tabletop RPGs, books, etc.

Over 700 creators have joined in support to donate their work. All proceeds from this bundle will be split between the following charities:

  • International Medical Corps provides medical assistance in the region. They have very low fundraising overhead (1% of income), with 89% of donations going to medical aid and 10% to administration.
  • Voices of Children, a Ukrainian organization that helps children cope with the horrors of war, PTSD, readjusting to school, and getting back to being kids. They have also been doing a lot of grassroots impromptu work during the war, such as helping set up shelters. Our hope is that this war will be over soon, and they can begin the work of healing these kids' hearts.

Of these nearly 1,000 products, more than 600 have never been in a major bundle before. Several prominent developers and publishers signed up to itch.io specifically to be in this bundle. And there's something for everyone - we have almost 600 digital video games, over 300 analog tabletop RPGs, and dozens of asset packs, books, zines, and comics, soundtracks/music, and a host of other products. Also unique to this bundle, we only allowed paid products.

We kept the minimum low, but we highly urge you to pay above the minimum if you can afford to do so. All proceeds will be split between the charities 50/50.

We stand with Ukrainians, and with all people around the world who despise war.

Thank you.

The itch.io page includes a list of items in the bundle if you want to look around - there are a lot of very good indie games, video and tabletop, on the list.

Edit: A note for people who haven't used itch.io before: as it is a megabundle, games on the list will not be automatically added to your library - you'll have to go into the list from the bundle and click the "Download" button to make them appear.

Sammy here, I am quasi-new to DW but new to this comm. I play Pokemon, Stardew Valley, and Tomodachi Life, I have a 3DS, I'm one of those holdouts that would no doubt still have an Atari if given a chance lol...

I mainly play Black & White 1 and 2, Ultra Moon & Ultra Sun, Soul Silver and well... let's just say that I play pretty much all the old games. I want a Switch lite... but... maybe for my birthday?? Anyways, I talk too much. Imma go play TL.

Ha.

As you may know, the Nintendo Switch can be played as a console, a tabletop stand, or a handheld system. For anyone who owns the Switch, which mode do you use the most?

I always play it as a TV console.

I recently started playing Horizon: Zero Dawn because it was interesting to watch my husband play it. However, I noticed his struggle with boss fights and that a single hit from enemies often took out a large chunk of his HP.

I was reluctant to try it at first because it looked hard. But then I found out I could choose from a selection of difficulty levels. I picked the easiest and started having fun.

That made me notice that when it comes to combat-heavy games, I'm always grateful for the option to pick the easiest game mode.

What difficulty level do you usually play games on? Do you like that it's an option?

Hi there! I'm AceTiff12 (or Tiff for short), a new community member. I like playing adventure, social, roleplaying, platformer, virtual pet, and simulation games. Some of my favorites include Pokemon, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, Don't Starve/Don't Starve Together, Tomodachi Life, Dragon Quest, and Animal Crossing.

I also like watching other people's playthroughs of videogames. Sometimes it even helps me decide whether I want to buy a certain game or not.

The systems I use are the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, PC, smartphone, Playstation 2, and SEGA Genesis Mini. Currently I'm rotating between playing Goatlings (PC), Story of Seasons (3DS), and Dragon Quest XI (PS4).

I think my favorite thing about videogames is how they can combine different artistic elements into one package--music, graphics, storytelling... and I love how I'm an active participant in it all.

Pokmon GO Announces Remote Raids To Participate In Battles At Home

There is no doubt that the game that has most transformed itself during this pandemic caused by COVID-19 has been Pokémon GO. Therefore, Niantic does not stop in its attempt to keep Trainers in the game. They are doing everything possible so that they can play and catch Pokémon without leaving their homes until this moment passes.

Hello, [community profile] i_love_games!

I'm a nonbinary trans woman (ze/zir or she/her) from the US mid-Atlantic region, and I ... well, love games. Have been playing board games and card games and videogames all my life, more or less. Today I was adding a couple new interests to my profile and decided to check for blogs that had one of them - "indie games" - on their list, and that's how I found here. I don't have any consoles right now, my computer is a fairly anemic laptop, and I don't have much income, so I've been playing a lot of indie games lately and loving them. Looking forward to talking about games I find with y'all!

I'm also a very irregular streamer - I generally stream as Packbat on Twitch and upload my streams to YouTube as RobinZimm (although I am sometimes very belated in doing so - I've played several sessions of Xenonauts that haven't made it off my hard drive yet). If people are interested, I can post stream announcements here; I'm not on a schedule at the moment, so it'd probably be random occasional "hey, I'm streaming this game [tomorrow/later today/right now] - feel free to drop by [link to my Twitch page] and hang out!" posts.

Disclaimer: It says review, but personally, this is more of a... first-impressions sort of thing-- just what I thought of the trailer.

Okay I'm like two days late but I JUST saw the Wortox trailer Klei released! They really outdo themselves with their exploration of lore-- managing to tie in many different things into short, often nonvocal (not in this case, though!) clips regarding the characters. I can only hope we see more of that in the future, or more comics, etc. Their ARG is also just fantastic, and I fully recommend it. Really, I need to get back into playing/find more people to play with (I'm a "I barely manage" kinda person hdfshkhdhfs getting better would be fun)!
Now, my thoughts on the trailer jsdkjfsd

Firstly, WOW. The narration is done incredibly well, and the rhyming doesn't feel forced. It flows well, and is easy to follow. The animation is, as always, stylized and appealing to look at. Everything moves smoothly, stretch panels seem to be null (not that they're bad, but they can be SUPER awkward), and the coloring doesn't look jarring or out of place.
So, character design? Well it's Klei, so it's good. Cute, stylized, and believable in-world. Wortox looks like a little anthro goat or deer, and makes for a visually interesting partner for Krampus. Beyond that, Krampus himself also looks really good-- especially the movements of his tail and bag!
Finally, story-- it adds to the lore, though I do have to complain about timing. To my knowledge, we don't see Wortox anywhere before this point. It's implied Wortox has been there for the whole time-- or at least a long time, based on how he considers Krampus a "dear friend,"-- but we never have an inkling of this in-game before the trailer. So, has he been there the whole time? Or did he start following around Krampus sometime after the start of the DST events? It's a little confusing if you sit and think about it.
Oh... and why does he have a W name? Because he's playable? He isn't trapped in the Constant like the others, after all...

Either way, I'm really looking forward to trying Worty out! What do you think?

Finished Superhot (the story mode) and I liked the gamplay, as well as the all white surroundings, which was a nice change from games that try to compete on how dark and grim everything can be. I played with mouse and keyboard (can't do VR because I'm blind in one eye,) though I've seen *a lo* of people say that VR is the way to play this game.

It took me 15 hours to complete the story mode, though I'm *really bad* at games that require a lot of precision; I've seen reviews where people have beat the story in under two hours.

Overall I'd give it an 8/10.

Spoilers are under a cut.

I'm playing Grim Dawn, and...

Why does every fantasy RPG need to have GIANT SPIDERS?!?

And sewer levels, every game needs a sewer level for some reason???

I'm legally blind, and that makes playing games on my PC hard, because so many games have incredibly small text. Some text heavy games (like Sunless Sea, Stellaris, and Hatoful Boyfriend) I can use my magnification program on my laptop to make the game readable.

Celeste so far has been the only game I can read the text without either using the magnification program, or smashing my face up against the screen to read. Anyone know of any games with Celeste level large text, or text that can be adjusted to be that large?
