After
sugar_cookie mentioned Heroes of Might and Magic yesterday, I started getting really nostalgic about all those ancient games that are just barely hanging on at the edge of my memory. Games like Ecco the Dolphin, Little Big Adventure, Earthworm Jim, and all the old LucasArts point 'n' clicks...
I thought I'd make a post here since I'm curious about what games make everyone else feel nostalgic, and if there's anything you remember playing that you wish you could get a hold of today! :)

Date: 2013-07-08 05:41 pm (UTC)The game I miss the most is probably Civilization 1, just for nostalgia's sake. My mum and I were given a *coughrippedcough* game, so we didn't have the manual and every time a security question came up we wrote it down, and tried the answers until we got the right ones. :D
And I really wish I could get Civ 2 Gold Multiplayer edition on Steam *sigh*.I also miss one of the King's Quest games, which I eventually found somewhere, now that I think about it, with a DOS emulator and everything...
Mostly I miss my old GameGear though, as it eventually broke. My classmate and I would swap our games all the time, and he always finished mine before I did! :D Except for Wonder Boy, which apparently never ended. He left it paused overnight one time, and he still didn't get to the finish.
I'd say The Longest Journey too, but I discovered last year that they sell it online, so I have it now! \o/ Best Norwegian game ever made.

Date: 2013-07-08 06:55 pm (UTC)I remember King's Quest! That's another series I was thinking of yesterday. I think the one I had was The Princeless Bride (thank you Wikipedia!), and I found it really really difficult. IIRC were a lot of moments where you had to get the timing spot-on, or else it was a game over. And it was a pretty creepy game in places - I think there was a bit where you had to steal bones from a coroner or something?
I've seen some of The Longest Journey games in stores around here, but I've never picked up a copy. What are they like? :D

Date: 2013-07-08 10:55 pm (UTC)The original Longest Journey is great, I've not played much of Dreamfall so I don't really know. They are both adventure point and click games, but TLJ has a really captivating story and solid worldbuilding.

I miss my Sega Saturn and games like Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighters Megamix, D, and Lunacy.

(I think there was a Sonic game which had a Knuckles expansion pack, and you had to plug one cart into the top of the other cart or something. Crazy old technology is great.)

Date: 2013-07-08 10:15 pm (UTC)Did you know some of the early FF games are available on Android? I found out the other day and it was another awesome moment of realising that old games are being made super accessible. I don't know if they've been released on iOS too, but I would assume that they have.

But the ones that make me most nostalgic would be the ones I played with my brother and dad, Skitchin', Road Rash, Sonic Spinball, and Crue Ball. I would love Skitchin and Road Rash the most!
